PHOPA BOARD MEETING
July 1, 2025
The meeting was called to order at 4:45 pm at Lelo’s by Cindy Muir. In attendance: Judy Yackee (guest), Kevin Fry, Cindy and Don Muir, Rick Johnston, Tracy Johnston taking minutes.
Review and motion to approve the previous minutes.
Treasurer Report reviewed, Bank balance noted, Cash Flow is up due to new members, HH revenue, and some Wings registration.
Judy’s comments representing some of the members:
Concerns are - the Board making decisions. i.e. raising the volunteer registration amount, change of venue for Spring Fling, change of venue for reg business meetings at the last minute. Trop Rock – members would like to have more music variety, like JB Cover bands, classic rock, etc. She suggests a business meeting to address some of the concerns an get feedback for the membership.
Cindy addressed that the prev board had made some decisions as to using the Civic Center vs pavilion. Most dates are set for the long term in reference to Wings and Spring Fling. Kevin is working to set the HH dates and venues for the year. Hoping to book more local musicions to create variety.
We are hoping to do more facebook interaction.
Cindy – in reference to Trop Rock – we have Jerry Diaz for Wings Gala and that will help diversify the music.
Don asked how the membership provided input in the past, Judy responded with regularly scheduled Business Meetings.
Cindy is hoping we can bring the Spring Fling back to the Pavilon in Feb, but she has to talk to the Harbor Master.
Wings update:
Volunteers are members in good standing, we need more volunteers for setup. Registration is now active on line. We need more info on the Raffle Items and how that process will work. Cindy created a flyer, more emphasis on Food, music and beach. Friday night we will start earlier – 5:00 to 8:00, jello shots 5 to 6, dinner 6PM. Kevin will get the permit, estimate BM 4-5 for location. Kevin will talk to Kipp at the Gaff about the pirate boat. Rick will handle getting it moved to the beach and back to the Gaff.
Spring Fling – Cindy to talk to Harbor Master about the Pavilion. Christmas Party – depends on the performances scheduled at the PACT. Margarita Party – combine with HH and maybe at the Pavilion.
Don talked about Rum Day festivities and he invited South Padre!
Rick spoke about the secret word and would like an extra award for those that mention the Secret Word at our monthly Happy Hours – maybe a $25.00 award using different color tickets.
