PHOPA Business Meeting June 10, 2025

5:15 PM Meeting called to order.
Judy Yackee called to table the open discussion, motion called to try to proceed at this business meeting.
Treasurer Report and June Business Meeting Notes are on the PHOPA Website for site members to review. Jana motioned for approval and Deno seconded that motion, all approved.
Kevin gave an update on Lucy and she is fighting to recover from the Kerrville devastation, we had a moment of silence for her. And he provided her address.
Wings Update – 45 volunteers as of the meeting date, need to get paid registrations done for these volunteers. We are the only PHC that gives a discount for the volunteers. Plus, we are the only club that has 2 fundraising events a year. Spring Phling and Wings. Of all the PHCs Wings is the last event of the year. This is the 16th year for Wings.
Deno – Gaff Event was successful! PA really showed up for Kerrville!
Cindy – Brought up the business meeting topic. At the May Business Meeting, the amendment was passed to have the business meetings on an as needed basis. There was discussion to resume business meetings on a monthly basis. A show of hands to return to monthly meetings was 20 for a monthly meeting and 4 against a monthly meeting. There was discussion on bringing back the social/food part of the business meetings back. Vote was taken to bring back social/food, 16 yes and 8 no. Location discussion is to be determined due to cost, summer crowds, noise. Cindy will research some suitable locations where we can possibly have food. Future business meetings will be held on the second Thursday of the month. If membership has suggestions please send via email.
The By-law will need to be amended at a future business meeting.
A show of hands was made for music at the Happy Hours – 18 yes and 5 no’s. Ro Hooten asked that there be quiet time for socializing.
Open Forum – Membership list was addressed and we are compiling a way to opt in or opt out for having your contact info published.
Judy Yackee mentioned that HH and business meeting attendance is declining. Why? And what can we do about it? Jana mentioned that 361 can be dangerous during the summer and especially at night. Deno also noted that attendance drops due to vacations and such during the summer months.
Reminder of National Rum Day – August 16th at BM 99. There will be competitions between Padre Island PHC and Port Aransas PHC.
It was requested to put together a group text for those not getting the emails.
Angie asked about expanding our music options for SP and Wings. Cindy noted that the By-Laws reference Jimmy Buffet music and Trop Rock. Board will meet to discuss ways to have more diversity as well as member input on entertainment options. Availability and cost are also factors.
